4.23 Over
The following events take place the day of Alex's sentancing....
(One month after chapter 4.22)
Two fifty-three AM. I hope he gets what he deserves, there's no way I can carry on surviving on so little sleep.
Josh is awake. Does he somehow know, or can he tell that I'm stressed? Maybe he's hungry. Shaena rose from the bed and went quietly to her son.
"Mammie"
"Hello baby, what you doing awake in the middle of the night?" She cooed as she pulled her son from his crib. She snuggled him to her, before climbing back into bed, and holding him close as she tried to sleep until morning.
When morning finally arrived, Kaity headed off to the court while the twins caught the bus to school. Shaena was alone with the toddlers once again.
She couldn't stop worrying that Alex would get away with it. She couldn't help but wonder what he'd do if he walked free. What would she do? If he came to the house, and begged her to come back to him, would she? Would she do it just so her son had the family life she'd wanted herself?
Autumn was lucky, she couldn't help but wish Josh at least had the opportunity Autumn did, even though Winter was there for all the children in this odd household, it would never be the same for Josh.
Autumn never failed to make Shaena smile, though. He'd somehow inherited his mothers gift of flight, even though he didn't have the wings. Nobody was sure how or why he could fly, because Winter had confirmed he was a genie, yet genies couldn't fly...
Today was especially hard to be in Elise's room. Kaity had stuck several pictures of their best friend on the walls, so Elise would maybe feel closer to her. Everyone was sure that Elise wouldn't remember her mother, but they wanted her to know everything about her.
She was just putting the kids down for an afternoon nap when Kaity rang.
"He's gone, Shae. You'll never have to see him again!" She shouted down the phone before Shaena even had a chance to speak. "He'll probably send you visitation orders, but I'm going to ask the prison to stop him from writing to you."
"Wow, Kaity..." She was sure she should be happy, she should be dancing around and screaming that her best friends murder was being punished, but she couldn't help thinking of all the good times.
"Shae, if you dare start feeling sorry for him I swear to plumbob..."
"Sorry, it's just... I don't know what to say!"
"Say 'I'm so glad I never have to see that ugly llama's face again'"
"I guess."
"Jakes throwing a party, just a small one. Luis and your mum are going, I'm going to call Winter, and then pick him up and I'll swing by and pick you up too. Can you call a babysitter or do you want me to?"
"Kaity, I'm not sure I feel like a party."
"Well, tough. You're going. I'll call the sitter, see you in about an hour. Oh, and put something nice on, we've all got suits and that on, you don't want to look left out. Love ya!" And with that she hung up.
Shaena returned to her room to change, and Alex was sitting awake in his crib. She scooped him up and gave him a kiss.
"It's over, Joshie. It's really over." Josh giggled and gurgled, and Shaena felt a lot better about the whole thing. She was sure Josh had no idea what was going on, but he seemed to know what to do to cheer her up.
Kaity arrived right on time, and hurried Shaena into the back seat of the police cruiser. Winter was already in the front, Kaity having picked him up from work.
The paparazzi were there. Clearly having overheard the family making celebration plans. Kaity managed to distract them with a simple "Oh my God! Is that Matthew Hamming?!" before grabbing both Winter and Shaena and running into the house.
Kaity started by introducing Winter to her aunt. Unfortunately, Taylor was working, and with Rose due any day now, she and Myles weren't attending, but Winter had already met them both in passing.
"Aunt Madi, this is Winter. He's... Uhm... He's Autumns dad." She wasn't sure what to introduce him as.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Winter." Madison smiled, shaking his hand. "You must be mad to be with our Kaity." She added, grinning.
"Madi!" Kaity screeched, making both Madison and Winter laugh. Her aunt and... Autumns dad... started up talking, so she wandered off to find her brother.
She found him in the bathroom, and wasn't afraid to stroll casually in without knocking. She'd seen it all before.
"Jake! Thank you so much for doing this."
"It's ok. I'm really proud of you, by the way."
"For what?" Kaity asked, confused.
"For standing up in court in place of your two best friends. You know Shae couldn't have faced him, and I can't imagine how greatful she is."
"I don't know that she's that greatful, she didn't sound too excited on the phone." Jake pulled her into a tight hug.
"She will be. Let it sink in, and don't forget that he was the father of her baby. No matter what he did to her, or Bonnie, there will always be a part of her that wonders 'what if?'"
"I guess you're right." Kaity pulled back. "How long you in town for, then?"
Meanwhile, Shaena was introducing Winter and Luis.
"Lou, this is Winter, Kaity's boyfriend. Winter, this is my brother, Luis."
"Hi, Winter." Luis started, shaking Winters hand. "I don't even need to check that you're Autumns father, that hair gives it away."
"Lou-ee! You already know he is, because Kaity told you!"
"That's true. Kaity phones me all the time. I'm basically her father, because I was a teenager when she was born and helped mum and aunt Taylor look after the triplets. I'll be the one you have to ask for her hand in marriage, just so you know..." He winked, and he and Winter shared a laugh. Shaena didn't see the wink as she was standing behind her brother.
"LOU! You're such an idiot! Ignore him, Winter, he thinks he's hilarious, but you don't have to laugh at his bad jokes. We don't."
Kaity soon returned from the bathroom, and stole Winter for a moment, leaving Shaena and Luis to do what siblings do best; argue.
"Lou, really? Kaity has never had a boyfriend before, please don't scare him away!"
"'Ayna, you're an idiot. I was joking, and he knew that."
"I don't care, what if he didn't? And don't call me 'Ayna', it's stupid. That's why I've always been Shae."
"I'll call you what I want, no matter how old and wrinkly you are, you're still my baby sister and I'm your boss." Shaena punched him in the arm, and they continued squabbling quietly. They were both happy under the surface, Alex was gone and they could relax.
Yeah, this is a little short, sorry! Next chapter is loooong, and was originally part of this one, but it was waaaaaaaay too long, so I split it.
Also, I didn't realise that GBH wasn't the name of the charge worldwide, so here's the wiki article about it for anyone confused on that one.
(For the really lazy, like me, here's a summary: "The offence under section 18 is variously referred to as "wounding with intent" or "causing grievous bodily harm with intent". The words "with intent" refer to the specific intent required for this offence.
The offence under section 20 is variously referred to as "unlawful wounding", "malicious wounding" or "inflicting grievous bodily harm"" Yes, I copy/pasted from wikipedia...)
Fun fact: My initials when you include my abandoned middle name, are GBH :p

Poor Shae, it must be hard for her. I mean she did love Alex at one point, and has his child, so it must be hard for her that everything went the way it did.
ReplyDeleteStill, having him locked up is best for her and Josh, though poor Josh will have to grow up knowing his dad is in prison for killing Elise's mother while trying to attack his own mother. Hopefully he'll grow up okay. He does at least have a loving and nurturing family, even if they aren't traditional.
It was nice seeing Luis again. But, wow, I'm glad Winter isn't that easily frightened off, lol. Well, I guess if he was Kaity would have already scared his pants on (so he could run the hell out of her life, lol)
Exactly. As Jake said, there will always be that 'what if...?' in the back of her mind. She'll always love the man she thought he was, if that makes sense?
DeleteYes, that is an awkward situation for both Josh and Elise, and hopefully the rest of the family will be able to explain it all and avoid conflicts. He should grow up fine, Shae and Kait grew up fine and they were raised the same way. Infact, they had no father, and these kids all have Winter, so they've got a head start (Although Kaity is a difficult person to live with at times...)
Luis was secretly in an earlier chapter. Last chapter, actually. He was in the 'kitchen' at the restaurant where Kaity and Winter went on that date. I think his arm made it into one of the shots, I tried to avoid him ;)
But, yes, Winter isn't easily scared off. Which is lucky for Kaity, but Luis was only joking around, which Winter knew by the wink.
HAHA! Scared his pants on. Love it. Well, she's not got them off him... yet... ;)
(Were you as scared of Shaena's shoulder blades at the end there as I was?)
LOL, I didn't notice the shoulder blades, but now that you point it out...
DeletePahaha! Creepy, right?! *shudders*
DeleteI'm glad the whole family is pulling round and I hope Shae in particular comes to terms with everything
ReplyDeleteYes, they're celebrating being free (Those were the actual guests at the actual party Jake threw, although technically that party happened before Kaity and Winter went on a date, you'd never have known..), there isn't usually much to celebrate in this family, so they take what they can!
DeleteShae will hopefully come to terms in time. It's a pretty major thing, having your ex-boyfriend locked up for murder, and she still has some residual feelings for him, even if they are lessened a lot by the murder. She just needs time for it to sink in, and to remind herself of all the awful things he put her though.
It's good that everyone is being so supportive. I feel bad for Shaena--she seems to have no control when it comes to Alex. It's okay, Shaena! He's going away for good!
ReplyDeleteYeah, poor Shaena :( She has control, she just worried that if it had gone differently, whether she'd have been able to tell him no. She doesn't love him anymore, but she still loves who he used to be so technically she could convince herself that the old him would come back.
DeleteHe's gone for good, though. *wipes brow* phew!
Maybe Shaena should dye her hair pink... Might give her some strength ;)
Poor Shaena, so conflicted. Hopefully it just gets better from here, though. Oh, what am I saying? This is a legacy story. It's all drama. ;)
ReplyDeleteHAHA! Yep. All drama. Actually, the next two chapters are pretty happy! The one after isn't too happy, but is pretty dramatic! :p I'm being mean. Sorry.
DeleteFor Shaena, it should get better for her. She can sleep at night now, and raise Josh in peace. She'll no doubt have some of Kaity's drama spill into her own life, as they live together and they're best friends, but nothing too bad should happen to her now. :)
Finally! A moment I can sit down and concentrate!
ReplyDeleteThis must really be difficult for Shae--as Luis pointed out, Alex IS the father of her child. And to her credit, Kaity wasn't over-the-top or pushy for Shae to be as exultant as she herself was, even if she did drag her to a party for it. And really, Shae did seem more at ease, the way she was bickering with Luis.
Too funny, Luis's comment directed to Winter. I wonder what Winter might really have thought about that =D
Oh yes, the Matthew Hamming distraction made me laugh. I'd forgotten about that particular celebrity.
Aww, you been busy?
DeleteYes, exactly! She loved Alex at some point, and she won't be able to help but remember him every time she sees her son (doesn't help that Josh inherited his fathers hair and skin). Kaity wasn't too pushy, no, the party was mainly thrown for her, which is why she was dragged along. And why the only two guests Jake invited were Madi and Luis. And she was a little more at ease, Luis could tell that otherwise he wouldn't have been trying to wind her up :)
Pahahaaa! I don't think it would have scared him off, even without the wink. If you look at what Kaity has put him through already, he clearly isn't easily scared ;)
I wonder what Kaity would have said if she'd overheard that comment, though...
Hehe! It made me laugh as I thought of it :p There's a story that I just caught up on where he's a secondary character, so he was in my head already. Plus, it's Matthew Hamming! What paparazzi could resist?!
Saturday was busy-ish, yeah, we were at the bank, and then other errands, etc.
ReplyDeleteThat's perfectly understandable that the verdict would be bittersweet for Shae. Does she still have feelings for him though?
True, Winter's already been through a lot with Kaity by now, and he is kinda stuck with her for life now, through Autumn. I wasn't sure what he'd make of the marriage comment though, lol. OMG I wonder what Kaity would have done if she'd overheard!
Aww, I hate errands!
DeleteUhm... Yes and no. She still loves the man she thought he was, but she doesn't love, or even like, the man he turned out to be. The murderer.
Yeah, a lot of people would have run off ages ago. I mean, he wants to help raise his son, but he doesn't have to be in a relationship for that. He loves her, and he's probably thought of marriage at some point, but not in thenear future. I think Kaity would have made a massive scene. Haha! Probably wouldn't have spoken to Luis for a while, which would have been hard as their daughters are best friends.
I'm Heeeeere! Finally! Alrighty, lets get down to it. Poor Shaena. She's got to be so conflicted with Alex and all that happened. Holding her darling little boy has to be a comfort, but also add to the confusion. He won't know the asshole that his father was, but he also won't know a loving male in the same way. Hopefully though, Shaena's reservations about Winter acting as a father figure toward all the kids in the house will fade away soon.
ReplyDeleteOk. I need to tell you about a handy little function of MC. Click on any sim outside of your household navigate through the pie menu until you've got MC up and select basic. There is a nifty little option "invite over." Any time I've used that the sim in question has dropped everything and immediately proceeded to visit the current active household. It's really handy for getting all those family members over to introduce "Autumn's Dad"'s to. lol
Autumn's dad. *snort. Didn't they agree they were for real dating last chapter? Did Kaity just forget that in her excitement over Alex' sentencing and the relative uniqueness of the situation where she has a steady relationship? lol
FINALLY! Thought you'd never make it ;)
DeleteYes, Shaena is very convicted right now. Bonnie's murder and that whole night still hasn't really sunk in. She blames herself. It was fine when it was just her getting hurt, but he took it too far. At least the kids are safe!
I don't think Shaena has reservations about Winter, I think she's just a little jealous that Kaity has managed to find the perfect man for her, someone who will forgive her thousands of opportunities that she really doesn't deserve. Of course, Shaena loves Winter (not in *that* way, as a friend), and appreciates him becoming a stand-in father for all the random kids in the house, but it isn't the same as Josh being raised by his own father. Or, the father she thought he would be... Does that make any sense? Probably not...
Thank you! :D Thing is, that party was a totally legit party thrown by Jake, so that function wouldn't have worked. Will surely come in handy in the future, though!
Haha! Well... They went ON a date, there wasn't any mention of them officially being a couple. Not yet, anyway. Maybe next chapter... I mean, Kaity's pulled him to one side. Maybe she's asking him what they are? Who knows?! Well, I do. I've got a few in the bag, but... You'll find out soon enough. MUHAHAHAA!! :p
I love that you wrote in August's "gift of flight". He must like to be mysterious.
ReplyDeleteI feel bad for Shaena. I like that we get to see more of what she's feeling. It looks like she is feeling better when she is around her family, though. She and Luis still bicker, lol.
Haha, he's confusing me a lot. The teleporting as a baby, flying as a toddler... I wonder what he'll do as a child? Transform into a werewolf?! lol
DeleteYeah, poor Shaena is having a rough ride of things at the moment :( Yeah, the family help take her mind off things, and remind her what she still has. Of course she and Luis bicker! I have two sisters, and we're constantly arguing even though we've all lived apart for years ;)
I'm glad to see the family all pulling together during such a trying time. I mean, it's good that Alex is getting his due punishment, but Shae still needs some support while she tries to grapple her feelings about the whole matter. Poor girl.
ReplyDeleteAnd I love seeing Winter interacting with the family. He certainly can handle their sense of humor well (and their weirdness), so that is a definite plus. Although I'm sure that is mild compared to what he's been through with Kaity. :P
Yes, poor Shaena will need support for a while. Luckily her family (which is massive) will always be around, and she has the kids to take her mind off it.
DeleteHehe, yeah, Kaity's put him through worse, and she's definately the weirder of the Mattells, so he's used to it now. It's about time he met the family, really. He still has a few to meet (Crazy grandma Lisa, Geoffrey, whoever Taylor is with now, everyones children) but he's met most of them now.
You can't turn love off with a switch no matter how hard you try. Shae still loves the bastard, but at least she knows she's better without him. Yeah, she'll always wonder 'what if?'
ReplyDeleteKaity was a little pushy when it came to Shae going to the party, but maybe that's what she needed. She didn't need to sit at home and mope about, wondering her what ifs.
Erm, Lou, that was very awkward about the proposal thing even if it was said in jest.
I didn't think this was too long, but then again, it took me three times of sitting down to read it without being interrupted by one thing or another!
:)
I know, poor Shaena. No matter how much she tries, she won't be able to just stop loving him. Hopefully in time she'll move on.
DeleteYeah, Kaity's always pushy. Her intentions were just that; get her out the house to stop her from moping. If Shaena really hadn't wanted to go, she could have said no and refused, but I think she knew what Kaity was getting at.
LOL! Yeah, only a bit! Luckily Winter is prepared for pretty much anything since being around Kaity ;)
Oh, no, this wasn't long. I was apologising for it being so short, because it was originally too long, and so I had to pick a place to split it up, leaving one short chapter and one slightly longer than normal chapter. So, the next one picks up directly from where this one left off.
Aww, it sucks getting interrupted! That happens to me, but more often when I'm commenting. Winds me up so much! You got here before the next one came out, though, so that's one thing!
:)
I agree with mypalsim1, can't just flip love off so easily so I understand where Shae is coming from, but I'm glad they got her out the house to take her mind off things a little.
ReplyDeleteGlad I'm finally caught up with your legacy and can't wait for the next chapter.
Yeah, that will be an issue for Shaena for a while. Hopefully Kaity can understand. Jake did try to explain to her in the bathroom, but whether any of that sunk in is a different matter.
DeleteWoo! Well done :D It's getting pretty long now, so I get more amazed each time I get a new reader! Next chapter is Saturday. I'm aiming at one a week on saturdays, and have three ready. If I get to having 5 ready, I'll post an extra one, but I need that buffer for inbetween gen 4 and 5 because I'm moving worlds and need to build the new town up. (*SPOILER* ;) not really)
Anyway... Thank you for reading!! :)
blah blah lorem ipso facto martha focker. and chocolate.
ReplyDeleteUhm... LOL?!
DeleteOk, so now we know this works, time to send Sunny a list of my settings!
@Misty---lol :D
ReplyDeleteWell, thank goodness that all is in the past, and so the family can hopefully move on. I hope Shae seeks some counseling, so she can figure some things out, and not repeat her past mistakes, and maybe even have a second chance at love!
Boy, I wonder if Winter knew what was coming when he ran into Kaity at that conference? lol Life changing moment, for the both of them!
Pahaa, she's been having issues with blogger letting her comment, so I told her to try mine so I could let people know my settings if it did work.
DeleteOoh, I'd not thought of Shae needing counselling! Good point, thanks for that! I've half-thought about her starting another relationship, but I think I'll leave it up to the online dating thing in game. Provided someone single actually messages her... I dunno, it won't be for a while, anyway, this is all too big to just brush off.
Haha! Probably not! I wonder if he'd have thought twice about approaching her if he knew all this would happen? Probably not, he does love her. Very lifechanging! For the better, though, I hope!
Shae's feelings are mixed, but it's understandable. She loved him and he's the father of her son. It will take a while before it really sinks in for her.
ReplyDeleteI love how Luis teased Winter! Winter didn't say it wouldn't ever happen.
Shae and Luis are so funny together.
I don't know how I missed these updates. Blogger and email didn't let me know you'd posted them!
