4:3 Cursing The Gift

Caution: very mild partial nudity, references to violence,
and the finest ass this side of Riverview.
(which I unfortunatly didn't use pics of from the right angle)

 "Shae? Are you ok?"
Kaity had been woken by the sound of Shaena walking down the stairs a little over an hour ago. She'd assumed she was getting a glass of water, and fallen back asleep. She wasn't sure what woke her up the second time, perhaps guilt? Whatever it was, she'd found Shaena curled up on the couch staring blankly into space.

"I think it's over, Kait." Shaena's voice was emotionless, and she didn't even blink when Kaity plopped herself down next to her.
"Did he break up with you?" Kaity secretly hoped he had, but she felt Shaena needed a friend more than a lecture right now.
"No." She wasn't giving anything away.
"Did you break up with him?"
"No."

Kaity re-adjusted herself. This could be a long conversation by the looks of things.
"Do you want it to be over?" Please say yes, she thought to herself.
"I don't think so."
"You're gunna have to give me more than that." Kaity said, her calm voice starting to carry a harsh tone. "Why are you here?"

Shaena sat herself up a little. She looked nervous now, almost like she was afraid to admit something.
"Shae? What's going on?" Kaity's tone was laced with worry now. Shaena glanced at her friend before looking at the floor again. "Shaena. Tell me." Kaity said, firmly.

"After you beat him up..." Kaity flashed a look of guilt, before bringing back her 'I'm listening' face. "We went home, and he blamed me for it. We had this massive argument, he started telling me that I should have learned to control you by now, and that you were out of control. I should have just nodded along, just agreed with him, but I stood up for you, told him you were drunk and didn't mean it..."

Shaena folded herself back up, and looked away. Hiding something.
"And then what, Shae? What did he do?"
"He threw a plate at my head." She muttered.

Kaity jumped up at stared at her cousin.
"Are you kidding me?! You are never going back there, I'll get your stuff and you can live here."
"Stop, Kaity. He said he was sorry, and he missed anyway, I ducked."

"That's besides the point, Shae. He could've killed you!"
"Don't be stupid-"
"I'm not being stupid. I'm pretty sure a plate to the head could kill you. And if not, you'd be in hospital or seriously disfigured or something." Kaity started pacing the small space between the sofa and the TV, trying to calm herself down. If she raised her voice too much, the twins would wake up.

"Kaity, calm down. He won't do it again." Kaity stopped, her back to her, and twisted a little to look her in the eyes, Shaena repositioned, seeing the seriousness on her friends face.
"And how do you know that, Shae? Have you seen the future?" Shaena's face dropped.
"You lied." She accused through gritted teeth. "You told me you'd not seen anything bad." She stood from the seat, and strode quickly towards the door. Kaity caught her waist as she passed.

"Stop, Shae. Just listen, please." Kaity was desperate, she'd never intended Shaena to find out, or go through, what her vision had portrayed.
"You lied to me, Kaity. You promised me you'd not seen anything other than a happy ending. You could have stopped this. You knew all along, and you never said a word. Do you know how much that hurts?" Shaena broke free from Kaity's grip as it loosened at her words.

Kaity watched as her best friend stormed out the door. Her words hurt, but she was right. If Kaity had told her all those years ago, she'd have broken up with him then and there, and none of this would have happened. At the time it seemed only logical to let her have the good times, and be there for her when it all fell apart, but what if he had taken it further? What if he'd killed her?

She moved forward to apologise again, try and undo what she'd done, but the door slammed in her face as she got there. She moved to push it open again, but decided against it. She needed time, they both did. She'd betrayed her friend's trust, and she just hoped she'd take her up on her offer of staying here.

She leaned herself against the wall as she heard Shaena enter the bathroom.
Please don't be washing up to leave... she thought to herself.
"Stupid." Thinking aloud now. "You stupid, stupid girl, Kaity."

She let herself sink to the floor, and picked at an invisible spot on her arm as she listened to Shaena draw herself a bath.
Why me? Why do I have to be the one with a gift?
Some gift. When has it ever come in any use?
Her mind responded to her by reminding her of the times it had been of use.
She sighed to herself. "Get out of my head." She breathed. Meaning her ability, but knowing there was nothing she could do. It was part of her, there was nothing she could do about that, and without it she wouldn't have a career. Who would she be without the sight? She'd moulded her whole life around it, and at times she thought it was the only interesting thing about her, even if it did feel like a curse a lot of the time.

Shaena relaxed herself into the bath, letting the hot water try to wash away the events of the past few days.
She lied. How could she lie?
They had been best friends pretty much their whole lives. Had she lied about anything else?
She sat herself up a little, gently sponging off her body.
She was lying to protect me. Maybe she didn't think he'd really do it. Maybe he didn't. She looked surprised when I told her, maybe she saw something else.
Maybe he won't do it. What if this is the turning point?
What if this event changes the event Kaity saw?
It was a lot of maybe's, but it made sense to her.

She's not out the bath yet. What's she doing in there?
"MOMMIIIEEEE!!!!!" The cry was muffled by the distance, but it was unmistakably Jaydean.
"Oh plumbob above, Jay, don't wake Soph!" Kaity muttered to herself as she went to see to her children.

Kaity had no idea why babies were so loud about eating. After she'd dressed them both, and given them both a bottle of formula, she left them screeching to each other in their room as she went to shower and get herself ready for work. She'd hardly had any sleep, and still hadn't caught up from the other night when she'd got drunk, but she still needed to work.

Shaena cornered her on her way to get breakfast.
"Kait, look, I'm sorry about earlier-" The hot bath had changed her whole outlook.
"No, you're right. I should have just told you, but I didn't, I kept it to myself and just assumed I'd be able to know when it would happen and stop it in time.

"It was the most stupid thing I've ever done, and I promise, from now on I'll tell you everything, and I'll be there to protect you if Alex ever dares to go anywhere near you-"
"Kaity. Stop. It's fine. I'm going to talk to Alex after work, see if we can work somethi-"
"No! Shae, please!"

"Kaity. I'm doing this." Shaena stated, and Kaity knew she should stop arguing now. She took a deep breath.
"Ok." She replied, as she let her breath out. She'd be there when this fell apart.

"I'm so glad you're letting me do this my way." Shaena said as she pulled her into a hug.
Best friends again.

The girls sat down to breakfast, Shaena made pancakes, disproving Kaity's earlier theory that she could only make waffles. And Shaena headed over to the shop to open up while Kaity gathered the twins.

*Unknown Number*
Kaity looked at her phone for a moment before answering. It wasn't often she got calls from an unknown number.
"Hello?"
"Hello is that Kaity Mattell?"
"Who's asking?"

"This is Celia Goth, calling from the Goth hotel in Starlight Shores."
"Uh, hello, Celia, how can I help?"
"I'm calling to invite you to a psychic's convention..."

By the way, I put up gen 3 summary, and added a new section for gen 4: character profiles. They're just a couple of lines about who's who, because there will be a lot of outside characters this gen. I'll add to it as I introduce more. It's here btw.

Also, Taylor broke up with Bebe and started dating Rose's best friend Shavon. I dunno how I'm gunna write that one in :|

  1. Ah, I'm glad Shae figured out that Kaity didn't want to hurt her by not telling her about Alex and what she saw, and that she and Kaity made up.
I'm worried what will happen with Shae and Alex. Those violent types don't usually change.
And poor Kaity, her gift really hasn't brought her anything but trouble has it?
I can't wait to see what the psychic convention is about.

    LOL, go Taylor!

    1. Luckily, Shaena and Kaity have been friends long enough to have that 'just know' understanding, if that makes sense? If you remember waaaay back when Shaena moved out, she was almost sure Kaity was lying about having no visions about her and Alex, but trusted her enough to give her the benefit of the doubt.
I know :( I'm sad that I chose this story for my most prettiest sim this generation. Kaity will be there for her whatever happens, and in game she's used the 'promise to protect' interaction, so I'm sure nothing too bad will happen ;)
Thing is, if Kaity worked on her gift hard enough it would bring her a lot less trouble. Maybe she'll learn more about it at the convention.
Maybe you'll recognise a few people there ;)

I know! I spend time setting her up for a happy ending, and as soon as she leave she dumps the pretty fairy and set up with a just-aged-to-YA human. *rolls eyes*

  2. Poor Shaena! She's in deep isn't she? I really hope she doesn't get hurt. And I can't imagine how tough it has to be for Kaity to have to censor herself like that. And then to accidentally blurt something like that out. At least Shaena understood in the end. Though I'm still really worried that Shaena is trying to change what Kaity has seen just to prove it. And that could be so dangerous.

Whoooo! Taylor! Your niece's best friend! At least she's a fairy so it's not like she's a cougar or anything. lol!

    1. As with a lot a people involved in violent relationships, she sees herself as deserving it. She tries to reason with her mind and explain why he would hurt her, and to her it all comes down to something *she* did, even though she's done nothing wrong.
Lets hope that if Shaena is trying to change something, she succeeds. Remember, she doesn't know exactly what happened in her vision, only that it must've been something violent, and it wasn't the plate incident. I agree, very dangerous.

      *daughters best friend :|
I don't care that she's a fairy! I spent time picking her a fairy mate so she wouldn't be left alone when her partner died, and she just dumps her and picks up with a human.

  3. Y'know, I relate to Kaity a lot in how she relates to others. She often comes across as harsh or blunt, but it always meant to come across that way.

Whoa, Alex said Shae should have CONTROL over Kaity? Is the man mad? And Shae thought should've just smiled and nodded? That alone justifies Kaity's feelings about him, even without the vision. That kind of talk, and Shae's guilt over how she "should" have acted are markers of an abusive relationship, whether it's gotten violent yet or not. (a little too much experience with this topic because of my sister and brother-in-law). "and he missed anyway"...wow, yeah. Oh gosh, wow. And yet, she's mad at Kait for not telling her of the vision? Kait had really really good reasons for keeping that to herself. Alex's behavior and plate-throwing have no good reason at all...

OooOooOo! Can't wait to see this psychic convention!

    1. ISN'T always meant to come across that way...facepalm

    2. Yes, Kaity is a very blunt person, and you're right, she doesn't mean to be. That's just how she is: she speaks her mind, and doesn't think about how it will effect people until they've stormed out and slammed the door in her face.
In that scene, she was being almost as controling as Alex, just without the violence, I can't imagine being Shae, trying to choose between the two.

Clearly, he's crazy. Lol! Nobody can control crazy Kaity! :p
I'm sorry you have first hand (or is it second hand?) experiance of this subject, and I hope I don't cause any upset. I'm not doing the adult content thing, so it should be pretty PG, but let me know if I go too far.
And yes, Shaena is the typical 'battered wife' (Sorry for awful phrase), sees herself as deserving of her partners punishments, even though she has done nothing wrong.
Kaity did have valid reasons, and it was good that Shaena could see that, even if she did the opposite of what we all wanted.

Lol! You might just recognise a few people ;)

    3. I thought I might. You mentioned before using Daniel for a convention :P

Oh no, nothing upset me about it, I didn't mean to imply that. What I meant is that you're doing a good job in portraying Alex as the potential abuser, because he's exhibiting so many of those red flags. Too often women make excuses for their partner's behavior, which often turns into blaming themselves for how it happened. The man will somehow turn the situation around--such as Alex saying Shae should 'control' Kaity better...nevermind that Kaity's acting according to what she knows of his own character, and this often results in the woman isolating herself further from friends and family who can help her. I just hope Kaity is able to help Shae.

    4. Hehe :D

No, I know I hadn't upset you, I was just asking that you'd let me know if I did take it too far.
I hope Kaity can help her too, but I highly doubt she'd let Shaena isolate herself. She's way too vocal for that :p Hopefully if/when Kaity steps in, Shae understands and see's what she's been doing.

  4. Stupid Shaena. He's never going to change. Hopefully Kaity will be able to protect her best friend. But I doubt it...

    1. Yes, she's stupid for being willing to forgive him, but unfortunatly that's how people in those situations tend to react :(
I hope Kaity can protect her. She is a psychic fairy-witch, and managed to beat him in a fist-fight, so she may surprise us yet! lol!

  5. Oh Shaena, get out get out get out! I hope she finds her way to seeing how bad Alex is and that it's not her fault.

Looking forward to the psychics convention - it sounds great fun!

    1. I hope so too! It's always the pretty ones who end up in the sticky situations :(

It's a lot of work, and thankfully a couple of chapters away yet. Phew! I have a giant set I'm currently building, loads of stolen sims I have to dress, and then I'll have to pose them all a lot... Why did I decide to do this...? Lol! Hoping it'll be worth it :)

  6. *squealy girlie voice*
A convention? Really?! I think I know what that means! *claps hands excitedly*

Now to the rest of it:
Yeah, this was an intense chapter for Kaity. Even after all that fighting, Shae is still gonna do what she's gonna do.

I'm sorry, I don't really know what more to say on this chapter other than we're just going to have to wait and see what happens.

    1. Hehe :) Maybe you do, maybe you don't. Maybe you'll recognise someone, or a few people, too! :p

Exactly. And the only think Kaity can do is let her do what she wants, because if she doesn't they'll only get into a fight and then she won't be there to help her.

It's fine, we are going to have to wait and see, really. (We not including me for once! Wow! I've planned something!! Lol)

  7. Oh dear---poor Shaena. :( You're doing a great job writing about the dynamics of abusive relationships. I hope Shaena is atypical though, and gets out before she is killed or hurt really bad.

Kaity is being a good friend though. It is tough to watch the people you care about make bad decisions, but in the end the only one we can really control is ourselves, lol

    The twins are so cute!

I'm looking forward to the upcoming Convention and these sims I may or may not recognize, lol :P

    1. Thank you :) I'm lucky enough to have never been through an abusive relationship myself, but I know people who have. It's tough to write and keep it PG, because most of my readers are from the US, and I know nothing about age-ratings over there. Over here in the UK, the Sims would be a 12 (we don't have 'teen' and 'mature', we have 12, 15 and 18) and a 12 rated film (movie) would be allowed to hint at domestic abuse, so I'm going by my own country's law for this.
I can promise you she won't die. She's waaaay too pretty for that :)

I agree, you feel you want to speak up, but you don't want to cause an argument, so you have to sit back and watch and hope they come to you when it goes wrong.

They are :) They're gorgeous as YAs. I peeked when they were born, I'm worried about the child-stage. Always am.

Hehe, it's gunna be fun! Not for me to shoot, that's going to be very time consuming, but it should be a fun read! :)

  8. I'm glad Shaena and Kaity seemed to work things out. I'm a little scared for Shaena though. My mind can't process the reason why people would stay in abusive relationships. But, I guess she needs to make her own decisions and learn from her own mistakes. Luckily Kaity will be there for her if she needs her.

  9. I'm glad that Shaena understands why Kaity didn't tell her about the vision. Maybe it won't come true now. At least Shaena has her eyes opened now. She will be more on her guard.

Taylor and Shavon! That's a strange combo!

Umm, I've looked at the pictures several times, but I don't see anything from the warning. LOL

  10. I read up to here last night but was too tired to comment, XD I'm glad the girls can still be friends and that Shaena somewhat understands why Kaity lied.

And I wonder what will happen at the convention?

  11. Ok, so now I finally see why Shaena has trust issues. Poor Kaity, all that work (and brawling) for nothing. Hope Shaena gets out soon. :(

    Looking forward to the convention!
